Lengthen Your Legs.

In the movie Pretty Woman Julia Roberts says to Richard Gere, "Did I mention, my leg is 44" from hip to toe. So basically we are talking about 88" of therapy, wrapped around you for the bargain price of $3000 dollars." - women everywhere thought, "that bitch!"

Some of us may not have 44" of "hip to toe" leg to work with, but I've found some great pieces out this Spring that really flatter your legs - regardless of inches to play with - and lengthen like you wouldn't believe. It's all about picking pieces with the proper proportions and patterns!

Check out some of these leg lengthening pieces...

1. Floral Lace Shift Dress by Dolce & Gabbana
Why: A classic shift dress like this one above covers up the body and accents the limbs. The draping of the lace hangs lower than the dress which allows for a shorter dress and creates the illusion of longer legs above what the dress shows. This is a great option if you want to remain conservative but still want to show off those legs.

2. Irchid Skirt by Theyskens' Theory
Why: Add in a high waist and take off inches in the length...and get away with it. A total matter or proportions. I love this piece by Theyskens' Theory because it also includes a fabulous lengthening print. The up and down direction of the print make the vision of your outfit appear up and down as well. This hemline also has the effect of sheer draping, which similar to the shift above, create a mysterious lengthening effect.

3. Star Bird Print Romper by √Čtoile Isabel Marant
Why: Well, because darling, I haven't met many pleated rompers that don't lengthen. The shorts give you lots of leg room to play, the pleats add in a fun flirt to the hemline, and this piece in particular draws attention to a high hip with the extra fabric embellishing the sides of the waist. Where your hip is normally is now raised at least 4 inches, which obviously means your legs have grown 4 inches to keep up!

Why: Cropped pants with socks is a huge no. Cropped pants with socks and a below the waist coat buttoned all the way up to the top? Disasterville.

Why: I'm all for the "distressed" jeans - however adding in holes anywhere from hip to toe instantly make the look lose fluidity. What was the first thing you saw when you looked at this picture? The holes at the knees I bet. Those holes broke up the leg of the pant and chopped it in half. Not so good for length.
Why: Never do anything angular from the lower thigh to the upper calf. Keep all angles above the knee at all costs. Anything lower makes the bottom part of the leg and the top part of the leg into one. Sorry Helmut, but even you make mistakes.

  1. Pretty Woman is like the BESSST MOVIE EVER!!! That scene in the bathtub is the best when she's singing Prince!
