My Family's Version of "Camping."

I am currently sitting wedged between my two sisters, mid-air over the Pacific Ocean, traveling to Hawaii. Laura is sleeping soundly (Truthfully...snoring like a bear. She can't hear herself with her iPod in her ears on full blast, but we all can), Lindsay is restless and looking over my shoulder to read every word I type making me anxious, and I am well...blogging.

Every year my family takes a week or two from our clashing hectic schedules and come to this house on the south end of the island, Kauai. We never venture to another island, let alone even past the south shore. My boyfriend can't fathom the fact that someone can just sit at a house for an entire week while on vacation...his version of vacation is go, go, GO! We're definitely not hiking the tallest mountains or swimming with sharks...but we don't just "sit" technically...

Here, we live in the smallest bikinis we own to avoid all tan lines, rid ourselves of all Chanel make-up, and let our hair go to it's natural, completely uncontrollable state.

We spend all day swimming and snorkeling in front of our house, tanning on rafts by the pool, eating Puka dogs from a local Portuguese sausage stand, playing endless rounds of Bullshit on the deck, and occasionally roaming around our part of the island on our bicycles.

Our Hawaiian vacation is my family's version of "camping" - we forget our responsibilities, bond out of boredom, and turn into complete savages. It is one trip where I don't spend more than $500 on myself - who seriously wants cliche 5-star resort, overpriced, gift shop sunglasses??? - I'm completely content with eggs Benedict and a mimosa on our occasional venture within society once our groceries at home wear down towards the end if the week.

Of course by the last night were all itching to get home; my Mom misses our dogs, my Dad misses his office, my sisters miss their friends, and I miss my closet...but all we have to do is look at our tanned bare faces to know it was a successful week of complete escapement - and one we can't wait to repeat the following year.

Now I'm off to read the August issue of Vogue, that I hurriedly picked up at the airport newsstand before boarding the plane, and gain some inspiration for my next post...

T-Shirts are not Couture, so why buy them in a high end department store or boutique with a Couture price tag? T-Shirts also don't have Couture sizing, I'm pretty sure you already firmly know if you are a small, medium, or you really need to try them on?

Don't waste another minute of your time working to afford $100 plus Vince or James Perse overpriced T's, and then wasting even more of your time trying them on. And please don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Vince sweaters and James Perse button downs...but budgeting my wardrobe fund for cotton T-shirts? No thanks. Seriously, it's so not worth it.

What is worth it? StyleMint.

StyleMint is a membership based online site launched by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen that sells a variety of exclusively designed T-Shirts at a fantastic price point.

First you create your StyleProfile so you can be categorized in the right style section of T's that will mesh best with your personal style (if you want to reach out of your current style, you're able to click other categories...there's no lock down). T-shirts are all priced at $29.99 and shipping is completely free. Not to mention, with every T-shirt, there are style notes by the Olsens, a video on the T, and who it was spotted on.

After you see some of your T-shirts that were picked and styled for you, there is an option to "Show Me More Styles." The same T's come up, but they're styled totally differently. This is a really great way to see some of the options you can use just by changing up your look, not the T-shirt.

I seriously recommend giving this a shot, not because you love the Olsen twins, not because you want to get sucked into another "membership only" shopping site, but because you want to stop being wasteful on a basic your money for the runway.

Height of Louis Vuitton Luxury.

The older and older my very first distressed L.V. speedy bag gets, tucked away in my closet as a symbol of the start of our intensely passionate relationship, the more and more I fall in love with Louis Vuitton. Louis Vuitton's collections have come such a long way, even from the beginning of my introduction to the designer.

Transformations occurring from the classic canvas to exotic leathers furs, but also stationed within the beautiful jewel-toned fabrics and materials...all constructed in a way that make Vuitton attire peek at a skyline height of luxury.

After seeing these photographs posted in an email this morning as I was clicking through my numerous daily messages (generally tempting me enough to throwingly engage myself in horrible binge of online shopping before noon), they actually inspired me to delete what was left in my inbox unopened from Bergdorfs, Bottega, and Balmain, and get to work so I can afford to swap out these beautiful collections in entirety each season.

Fashion Meets The Future.

Remember the days of having to take a stroll down Rodeo Drive to knock a current sense of fashion into your head?
So time consuming.

Or how about waiting all year for your favorite designer to go on sale at a department store?
Recipe for anxiety issues.

What about spending an hour in the dressing room only to have to then ask a stuffy sales associate at Saks whether those white flared jeans make you look super hip or make your hips look super big?
You'll never get the right answer.

Thankfully, all these horrible situations are really just a thing of the past. The world of shopping has become so expansive electronically these days, everything you used to have to deal with and stress over can be immediately attended to with the push of a button. Not only do we have online shopping, but we have online styling websites and blogs to coach our fashion sense, downloadable mobile apps for shopping boutiques and department stores...and not to mention tons of mobile apps supplying us with fashion tools to help keep our wardrobe in check!

Here are some great day-to-day fashion tools (downloadable apps and websites) that I've found to keep my wardrobe looking good and growing without having to head all the way to Bergdorfs for inspiration or a purchase:


Ever ask yourself "do these shoes go with this outfit," or "does this dress make me look fat," wishing someone was there with you to give a second opinion? LOVE IT OR LOSE IT is sort of like a fashion lifeline. Use this app to get instant fashion feedback from your contact list by simply uploading a photo, sending it off, and having your fashion lifeline rate your choice as either a "Love It!" "Like It!" or "Lose it!" You are also able to connect with other fashionistas whose opinions you value using LOVE IT OR LOSE IT and get their feedback as well. Pictures you take can be added to your Wish List and also to a Photo Feed to show off your looks to the LOVE IT OR LOSE IT community. Use the Wish List feature to shop for picky friends off of their custom Wish List and also drop hints to friends off of your own!


If you've ever seen the movie Clueless, you will know exactly what I'm talking about when I tell you that STYLEBOOK is basically a hand-held version of Cher's closet. Using this app, you're able to upload photos of your clothing, organize your wardrobe pieces into categories, and then build the perfect outfit! STYLEBOOK helps create looks on the go so you don't have to be late due to outfit crisis, tracks what you wore and plans things to wear for the future (no back to back outfits here). STYLEBOOK also lets you share your outfits with friends for a second opinion or for post-wear bragging rights!


STYLISH GIRL is an app very similar to STYLEBOOK, but it also allows you to mix in a wardrobe wishlist with your current pieces! STYLISH GIRL has a great assortment of brands and retailers featured on the iPhone mobile app that you are able to pick from, add into your virtual closet, and shop from. The shopping feature on STYLISH GIRL is great to use when trying to incorporate new items into your current wardrobe. Now that I've got your attention with an app that allows you to actually browse and make purchases directly from it, time to share a fabulous website I've found that is all about adopting new wardrobe additions - and my favorite additions in particular, dresses!

Pageant of the Masters

"Get ready to believe in the art of the impossible! In its uniquely theatrical celebration of tableaux vivants – "living pictures" – the 2011 Pageant of the Masters is venturing into magical artistic realms."

This past Sunday for my Grandmother's birthday, as an annual tradition we went to the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach. It is such a fun event, if you haven't been I highly suggest going at least once (it's running this year from July 7th - August 31st), you won't be disappointed - it's seriously magical!

There are a few things I think about while watching this show...

1. "How do these people stay so ridiculously still?" - completely beyond me. But finally after staring hard enough, I find someone and think, "That person is TOTALLY shaking! She can't even keep her hand from waving around!" - that's totally me.

2. "I wonder if he's actually naked in this sculpture in front of all of these people or if he's wearing a body suit that's extremely detailed..." - I'm not the only one thinking this...we all know exactly where everyone's binoculars are directed to during this display.

3. How so many of the artists' works remind me of specific designers' collections in today's world of fashion.

For example, (and I don't want to ruin the surprise for those going...but, this is the point of my post) one of my very favorite artists, Salvador Dali, was featured this year at the Pageant in a "Tribute to Salvador Dali," along with the finale display of his famous oil painting, The Sacrament of the Last Supper.

As I was just completely entranced over his works flashing on the screen, I noticed how much his art compared to the Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen of today's fashion Couture.

Jean Paul Gaultier's structural elements are strong with the lines of Salvador Dali's...

You don't have to be an art enthusiast to be excited about the Pageant of the Masters. If you have any interest in picking out the wavering performer in the group, eye opening binocular sightings, or high fashion transformations onto canvas, you will enjoy yourself at this event.

Not to mention, there are some killer lemoncello cookies to grab at intermission...

Louboutin Macaroons.

Earlier today was online trying to find this little French bakery in San Diego that served the most delicious and delicate macaroons at this fashion luncheon event I attended recently. I wanted to ship a box of these lovely treats over to my friend in New York City for his birthday.

As I was Googling "delicate, french, macaroons, San Diego" in a high search frenzy, Google must have known my typical search criteria too well and up pops Louboutin and Ladurée macaroons!

I know this is old news, but I can't help but share this wonderful fashion infused delicacy I stumbled upon with you...

Once upon a fashionable time long, long ago, French shoe designer Christian Louboutin collaborated with French Patisserie Ladurée to create a fabulous collection of special edition macaroons.

Together, Louboutin and Ladurée came up with three different, beautiful little boxes, printed with designs of Louboutin's colorful shoes and purses. The clever lid was designed to be torn trompe l’oeil effect, giving the lucky recipient of the box a little peek as to what is being contained.

There inside the box, six scrumptious macaroons prepared by pastry chef Philippe Andrieu were to be found. These macaroons were full of Mediterranean flavors featuring those of fig and date. These delicate desserts became available September 11, 2009 at Ladurée Harrods and Burlington Arcade Gallery and started at £9.80 for a box of six.

How wonderful would it have been to be able to send a little box of these over to my dear friend! Maybe sometime in the future another charming collaboration like this will be made again...

Lace Collection.

Lace, which has always been a signature strand in Dolce&Gabbana's DNA, is now being integrated into the newest eyewear collection, the Dolce&Gabbana Lace Collection 2011. I see this as a beautiful incorporation being made. The lace pattern on the sunglasses give a softer finish to the eyewear that we usually view to be much more bold, dramatic, and sharp. Regardless of the result, the way that the Lace Collection is being technically created by Dolce&Gabanna is pure artistry and beauty in itself.
